About The Flurry

The Flurry is a blog that endeavors to mix sports, media, and pop culture with life.

Written by all college students, The Flurry was formerly known as The McFlurry, but the name was changed due to obvious copyright issues with a certain fast-food corporation. However, the drop of the "Mc" is symbolic, in a way.

Originally started as a side project by University of Oregon Journalism/Sports Business student Joey McMurry, The McFlurry grew to include more people than just Joey. Now displaying the work of more than ten contributors, The Flurry is not only a mix of Joey's thoughts on sports, media, pop culture, and life, but also a blend of multiple views from various other people on each topic. Joey now happily serves as the site's editor while also writing and broadcasting himself.

Although The Flurry primarily focuses on Bay Area and Northwest sports, The Flurry does discuss national and international sports as well. Professional sports such as MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLS are all discussed as well as college sports like basketball and football. No assignments are given out here - each post is something the writer wants to write about. Since most of us attend the University of Oregon, the Ducks are a primary focus. Additionally, since Joey (Flurry editor) is a passionate Bay Area sports fan, many posts revolve around teams in that area such as the San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, Golden State Warriors, and San Jose Sharks. Many contributors are also from the state of Oregon, so Oregon teams such as the Portland Trail Blazers are a main focus as well.

The Flurry is always expanding, and once contributors can be found to handle more west coast teams, The Flurry's focus will expand to the entire west coast while still discussing all major sports topics.

Media and pop culture are another main focus of the site because, let's face it, everyone (particularly college students) like television, movies, video games, music, and everything else. Hence, we have things to say about these topics, so we write about them.

The Flurry is also home to the sports-talk video podcast 3 Ducks in a Row. Produced and hosted by Joey McMurry, each episode is a topical discussion on something from around the sports world. Regular panelists include Preston Hiefield, Trent Warren, Ronnie Grenier and Zan Schindler. More information on 3 Ducks in a Row and all of the episodes can be found here.

The Flurry strives to be a professional, yet fun blog for its readers. Comments are encouraged and interaction with each member of the staff is welcomed.
